James Heywood
James is the National Organiser for the BTO/JNCC/RSPB Breeding Bird Survey. James has been interested in various aspects of the natural world since a young boy and trained in zoology and comparative anatomy, embarking in the late 2000s in a career in palaeobiology. A stint working in clinical medical analytics and most recently as a field ornithologist led him to BTO in 2022 where is now the 5th custodian of the UKs ‘Gold Standard’ monitoring scheme for birds. His favourite bird is the Wheatear, a harbinger of spring and symbolic of some favourite holiday UK destinations. James Heywood | BTO - British Trust for Ornithology
