The Bird Club is in a good place compared to a few years ago – we publish an annual report we can be proud of, our web blog, social media and newsletter are appreciated, and our finances are stable. However, we face many challenges: our membership and Committee members are ageing, we don’t attract enough younger people or women into the Club and we are finding it difficult to fill key leadership roles.

And yet we know there are more people interested in birds, birdwatching and conservation than ever before. So we need to change to accommodate the wide range of interests that will strengthen and invigorate our Club. Over the last year we’ve been talking to partner organisations in Dorset to get their ideas on how we can bring about change. A working group then gave us excellent feedback and ideas for the steps we can make to bring about real, positive change. In May 2024 our Committee and Trustees approved a strategy for the future, with a set of key actions to be delivered over the next three years.
